The women behind Northwest Ohio Birth Services
Massage Therapist, Monatrice, CPM
Jennifer has been researching the childbearing year for as long as she can remember. Along the way, she became a licensed massage therapist in 2003 and a Birth Doula (through DONA International) in 2006. In 2011, while attaining her Associates in Medical Assisting, she realized she wanted to help parents-to-be in a more personal way. One that would help them be more autonomous and in charge. She did more research and started apprenticing with a CPM in July of 2012.
In August of 2013, just two months after graduating from the University of Northwest Ohio, she entered the Community Program at Birthwise Midwifery School, in Bridgton, Maine. Jennifer became a Direct-Entry Midwife upon graduating from Birthwise on June 10, 2017. She passed the NARM exam, and became a CPM, in July of 2018.
In her words, "Midwifery brings some unique aspects to my doula work. Since I no longer choose to be certified, I am able to incorporate some of what I have learned through my training, to help parents choose the best time to go to the hospital, or call the midwife as the case may be, while still remaining safe." When hired as a Doula, I DO NOT stay home and catch your baby. If you would like home birth services, please contact me so we can discuss your situation.
When not studying and attending home or hospital births, Jennifer lives in the Findlay, OH area, and spends what little free time she has studying, sewing, collecting items from the 1800s, and spending time with friends & family.
A licensed massage therapist since 2001. Shelly attended the Ann Arbor Institute of Massage Therapy and has extensive continuing education in holistic health and wellness practices. She offers a blend of holistic services and styles of therapeutic massage to help people function at their personal best.
Shelly has had a calling to be involved with women during the childbearing year, ever since high school.
She began helping a community midwife (following the birth of her 1st child in 2003). She attended formal doula training in 2005, midwife assistant training in 2008, then enrolled at the Midwive's College of Utah in 2018.
“I have a personal and professional passion for women's health. Pregnancy and postpartum massage are a core part of my massage practice.
Birth Doula/Energy Healing
I am committed to assist and support women in all phases of their lives. My goal is to help women feel empowered, knowledgeable, and confident."
When not at work, you will find Shelly studying for her midwifery degree, assisting community midwives and Doula clients at births, or hanging out with family and friends in the Old West End.
